For over 25 years, MediCare has been at the forefront of healthcare innovation in Pakistan, combining medical excellence with heartfelt compassion to transform lives and communities across the nation.
To provide accessible, affordable, and world-class healthcare to every patient who walks through our doors, regardless of their socioeconomic background. We strive to eliminate healthcare inequality in Pakistan by combining the latest medical technologies with compassionate, human-centered care. Our mission drives every decision, from how we train our staff to how we design our patient wards.
To become South Asia's most respected hospital management system by 2030 — a beacon of medical excellence that attracts world-class talent, advances cutting-edge research, and sets new standards for patient outcomes. We envision a future where no Pakistani family has to travel abroad for specialized medical care because we will have built that excellence right here at home.
We believe that healthcare is a fundamental human right, not a privilege. Every patient who entrusts us with their health deserves the same standard of care — whether they come from a mansion or a village. This philosophy permeates our entire institution, from our subsidized patient programs to our community health outreach initiatives in rural Pakistan.
From a modest 50-bed hospital to a 1,200-bed world-class facility — our growth story is defined by one constant: unwavering commitment to patient care.
MediCare was founded by Dr. Khalid Rehman with a vision to bring international-standard healthcare to Pakistan. The original facility in Islamabad's Blue Area opened with 50 beds, 12 doctors, and a staff of 80. Despite modest beginnings, the hospital quickly earned a reputation for exceptional patient care and honest medical practice.
After serving over 100,000 patients in its first five years, MediCare expanded to 200 beds and launched its dedicated cardiology and orthopedics departments. This expansion was partly funded by the community itself — a testament to the trust patients placed in the institution. The cardiology unit performed its first open-heart surgery in November 2003.
MediCare became the first hospital in Pakistan's northern region to receive Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation — the world's most prestigious hospital quality certification. This milestone validated our processes, patient safety protocols, and clinical outcomes against the highest global standards.
MediCare was elevated to Research & Teaching Hospital status, partnering with international universities including Johns Hopkins (USA), Imperial College London (UK), and Aga Khan University. This partnership launched our postgraduate medical training programs and began our journey into clinical research.
MediCare launched Pakistan's most advanced hospital management system — a fully integrated EHR (Electronic Health Records) platform, AI-powered diagnostic tools, telemedicine services, and digital pharmacy. This digital leap reduced medication errors by 94% and cut patient wait times by 60%.
MediCare opened Pakistan's first dedicated robotic surgery center, housing three da Vinci Surgical Systems and a custom-built hybrid operating theater. In its first year, over 500 robotic surgeries were performed across cardiac, urological, gynecological, and colorectal specialties with outcomes surpassing global benchmarks.
Guided by visionary leaders who blend medical expertise with management excellence, MediCare's leadership team sets the direction for our institution's growth and patient care philosophy.
A visionary cardiac surgeon trained at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Rehman founded MediCare with a single belief: every Pakistani deserves world-class healthcare. His 35 years of medical leadership have shaped the institution into what it is today. He remains actively involved in mentoring young physicians and shaping hospital policy.
Dr. Farooq holds an MD from Imperial College London and an MBA from INSEAD. She has transformed MediCare's operational efficiency while maintaining the highest clinical standards. Under her leadership, patient satisfaction scores increased to 97%, staff retention improved by 40%, and the hospital's annual capacity grew by 300%.
A renowned neurosurgeon and medical researcher, Prof. Baig oversees all clinical operations and medical standards at MediCare. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers and received the Pakistan Academy of Sciences Gold Medal. His clinical protocols have been adopted by 12 other hospitals across South Asia.
Dr. Iqbal leads a nursing team of over 1,200 healthcare professionals with a passion for compassionate care. A graduate of King's College London and a Nightingale Scholar, she redesigned MediCare's nursing protocols which now serve as a national benchmark. Her Patient Experience Index initiative has received international recognition.
Our six core values are not just words on a wall — they guide every clinical decision, every patient interaction, and every investment we make in our people and technology.
Patient safety is our non-negotiable foundation. From rigorous medication verification systems to surgical checklists inspired by aviation safety protocols, every process at MediCare is designed to eliminate preventable harm. We report near-misses transparently and learn from every incident to continuously improve our safety culture.
We pursue the highest standards of medical practice through ongoing education, research participation, and evidence-based protocols. Our physicians are required to complete 50 hours of continuing medical education annually, and our clinical outcomes are benchmarked against top global hospitals quarterly.
Medicine is more than science — it is humanity. Our staff is trained in empathetic communication, cultural sensitivity, and emotional intelligence. We ensure that every patient feels respected, heard, and supported not just physically but emotionally and spiritually throughout their care journey.
We invest 8% of our annual revenue into research and development. Our research teams are currently conducting 40 active clinical trials in oncology, cardiology, and regenerative medicine. We hold 15 medical device patents and have spun off three health-technology startups in the last five years.
We maintain absolute transparency in our billing, clinical outcomes, and institutional decision-making. Our annual quality report is publicly published, our pricing is clearly disclosed upfront, and our board meetings include patient representative voices. Trust is the currency that sustains everything we do.
MediCare allocates 15% of its capacity to subsidized and free care for underprivileged patients. Our mobile health clinics reach 50 rural communities monthly, our school health program serves 200 schools, and our disaster relief team has deployed in every major natural disaster in Pakistan since 2005.
